Very exciting news - my work has been published...in Sis Boom's new book: Girl's World.
Run out to your favorite book store and get a copy or buy through Sis Boom's website.

Here is a quick peak

voila
The book is chock full of great sewing projects for girls with patterns included and the most beautiful photographs.

Each year MRR DESIGN grows a little more; publication of my work is another notch on the pole. It makes me so happy and proud and is testament to slow and steady wins the race. My race anyway. As I pass the three year mark of the blog, I note that the blog is the tool that ratcheted up the business. The blog allows me to showcase my work, and to communicate with other folks about what inspires me. It motivates me to plow ahead...to stay focused and informed. And to have fun.

Over the years I have done a lot of work with Jennifer Paganelli of Sis Boom fame. This is Jennifer's first book and I am delighted to be part of it. It is full of how-to projects for all you crafty folks and seamstresses or just plain creative folks. You can see some of the other projects that I did for Jennifer here and here. And while my business is bumping along, Jennifer's is on the speed way. When I first met Jennifer she had two or three sales a year at her house; she got some great press in Country Living and then she got the dream of a lifetime: to design fabric. I think Jennifer has about 8 different fabric collections so far - check out her website. You will recognize many of Jennifer's fabrics on my frames.

My piece is on how-to make a quilted memento board - go to pages 158 - 163 -
and then read the rest of the book.

Swatches from Sonia Delaunay

"If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday."
Pearl S. Buck

Top of the morning to you
Swatch above is from Jennifer Paganelli's new line

I was struck by all the geometric patterns that I am seeing this spring
and then I saw the historic designs from Sonia Delaunay
(see top of blog and below)

Do you recognize the lamp shade fabric?
It is my friend Jennifer's design -
Jennifer of Sis Boom fame.

Featured in the Adore Home, British edition

You might remember my Autumn 2010 line.

Jennifer's fabrics always find their way on to my frames
see the below

Sis Boom collection called Poodle
this design is called Marnie
(just like me)
see my blog post about this here

Just last week I saw this rug in Connecticut Cottages and Gardens
February issue
(the blue and green design below)

and to my delight I discovered it was a Sis Boom design
This is a whole new direction for Jennifer.
Love it

Hard to believe, but it's time for the Autumn 2010 line
Here is a taste of what's to come...

just a few samples
I always buy too many fabrics
I simply cannot resist...

A fun fabric to remind me of a favorite summer pass time;
relaxed rides on bikes with the fat tires.

The design above reminds me of the ghost chairs
that are all over the
design blogosphere

I love the quatrefoil pattern
and
predict it will be popular

This shape is everywhere these days...
I did a post last year on clover shapes - click here

more of the sophisticated fabrics

and of course, mrr design must have lots of
happy,
bright,
fun
colors

and the graphics below are very special:
my friend Jennifer over at Sis Boom
named this fabric after me!

I am so flattered. I love the graphic punch!

Vacation from the day job is coming soon...
so is the departure of my dear miss is for college...
just one year ago this week we where touring the east coast looking at schools...
so glad that miss is will only be 2.5 hours away.

Made me smile - this e-mail from a happy customer. She bought a mrr design picture frame in beautiful Sis Boom fabric last year and says:

".... the one in my office makes me happy even on the gloomiest, most stressful day at work!"

Have you heard of Sis Boom?

If not, read all about it here
interview on True Up

Love this wonderful picture of Jennifer.

Jennifer lives just up the road from me
and is loaded with infectious enthusiasm for life
and is one of the warmest people I know.

I have been lucky enough to show my work
at her semi-annual Sis Boom shows.

I love all the sis boom fabrics
as you have probably noticed

I branched out and came up with a few new
items created with Sis Boom fabrics for the
last two shows

crayon roll-ups
knitting needle bags

one of my all-time favorite creations:
a not-so-traditional holiday card board
so much fun

and
we have even collaborated on a few projects
here is a head board

These fabrics and colors are delicious.

Tastier now that you see what is inside.
Don't you just love these?
I was so pleased when I finished my first one on Sunday morning.
Crayon rolls for your little artist.
I am going to make some more for colored pencils and markers.

Perfect for camp - a rollup and one of my camp journals
or
 a roll-up and a summer journal
for a "school's done" present!

Anyone who reads this blogs knows that I knit.

I bought this needle case
from Martha By Mail years ago.
(by the way, I miss that catalogue; it had great products.)
I love the needle case - I would never know what needles I owned without it.

Regular readers also know how I like to use up everything.
I made a few needle cases a couple of years ago
with some of my extra fabric
and sold them at Sea Beans Studio.

The needle cases sold quickly each time I brought them to the shop.
I kept meaning to make more, but not being a speedy seamstress...
I procrastinated.

Out of the blue, I was inspired to make more needle cases
for the upcoming Sis Boom show.
I guess I wanted to change it up a bit.

I patched a lot of my scraps together...
and used this great ribbon that I bought a few seasons ago;
one ribbon illustrates how to knit in 3 easy steps
and another has the words:
I wonder who is knitting for me?

How much fun to use this ribbon for the ties.

So here are the knitting needle cases.
Each one is one of a kind.

I sewed in the studio all weekend long
listening to my book on tape.
It was a perfect weekend.
I hated to stop.

These will all be for sale at the Sis Boom show
on June 11th, 12th and 13th
A created a few more goodies.
Come back tomorrow to see those...
